You have probably spent quite a while going through your matches on your profile, maybe you have even chatted to a few potential partners on a regular basis. It's only natural to let nature run its course and ask move things along by asking to meet in person. Very few things can stand up to the feeling of finally meeting the person you have been exchanging several messages with in the flesh and bone! And chances are, you might really hit it off and this could be the beginning of an amazing romance.
It doesn't matter who asks who, whether you’re a girl or guy, the first move does not really matter here. What you should be putting thought into instead is where you will take them and what you will do on your first date. It is therefore important to make a good impression. While it is quite common to go for coffee or food, with a bit of extra creativity and innovation, you can create a fun and memorable first date as follows:
Fun day at the beach
We are really lucky to have so many beautiful coastal beaches in New Zealand – this gives you the perfect setting to get to know your date. It is absolutely wonderful to be in nature, when the sun is shining and depending on the season, you could even take a dip in the ocean. If you do not feel comfortable to be seen in a bikini for your first date, you can always still suggest to meet up at the beach, maybe in the late afternoon, take a romantic stroll and have ice-cream. You could also go for water-sports (depending on what website you met on, this could have vastly different interpretations), make sure you inform them in advance if you are organizing water-skiing or you could book a sunset cruise and have a drink on board.
Hiking or a walk in nature
Keeping with the nature theme you could make the most of what Mother Nature has given us and take your date for a relaxed walk in the forest or a mountain hike. Pack a picnic for when you take a break or make a short stop when you get tired. Popping into the nearest coffee shop or eatery for lunch or a light meal is also an option with this type of outing. Besides picking a location, this option requires the least planning, perfect for those of you who are time stuck business professionals.
Theater or any other cultural activity
Visit an art gallery or a museum together or attend a live music gig. Go to a concert or recital or book tickets to a fun show at a theater. It’s a great way to show that you have a well developed sense of culture and share your interests in that regard and find out more about what your date’s favorite cultural activities are. She might be into ballet while you’re more into comedy shows and this will no doubt leave opportunities to take her on another date where you get to experience something she likes doing. Or it could be a first experience for both of you which can make the date special and unique.
