Being single is not uncommon. In fact, it is a phase where a lot of people find themselves quite a few times in their lifetime and for most, represent a third of their years of existence. In cities such as Auckland or Christchurch for instance, you will find there are many other singles living in your area. Without a doubt, there are many women and men sharing the same status as you. The question is what does one do when single – how do you cope with being single?
Make the most of this season
If you find yourself in this situation, the best thing you can do is to go with the flow – embrace it! Take this as a blessing in disguise and use this time effectively. How you do this is entirely up to you and based on your personal interests and your type of personality. Make the most of this period of singleness by immersing yourself in it fully – enjoy the benefits that your married friends do not have. Think about it: you do not need to be accountable to anyone about your time and where you go and when you go out or come back home. You can do whatever you want to do, for however long you want to and with whomever you wish to spend time with. You can also live your life the way you please and spend your money as lavishly or as frugally as you wish.
Keep your chin up
Whilst being single may have its ups and downs, do not forget to keep your chin up. This is only a season in your life and this does not mean that you are doomed to be single forever. Remember to smile and be enthusiastic about your life for it is by doing so that you will attract the love of your life as people will be naturally drawn to you.
Step out of your comfort zone
Love is not going to come knocking at your door if you remain locked in. Brave the singleness period by stepping out of your comfort zone. Go do that thing you’ve always wanted to do and don’t be afraid to try new things. This will not only create new experiences for you but will also make you interesting as a person the next time you meet new people – it will give you things to talk about and share opinions
As in everything with life, take it with a pinch of salt and keep in mind that the gentler you are with yourself, the easier you will find it and the less pressure you will place on yourself to find someone. Remember: it is better to be with someone you are completely mad about than settle for someone who is not right for you. At the end of the day, you want to be able to find someone with whom you can share lifelong commitment with and are thrilled to count in your life.
